| STATEMENT
グリーンフラッシュ。太陽が沈む間際に、緑色の光をはなつ現象で、北国や極地で見られる。Roy Taroの作品世界には、緑色の太陽が現れる。作家は、実際の景色をモチーフとし、木や山といった自然の要素を色彩に純化して作品を制作している。その過程で〈緑の太陽〉という言葉から色彩やかたちを着想し、絵を立ち上げていく。黄色や赤で描かれた太陽は「それが太陽だ」という明快な意味をもっているが、私たちはそれにとらわれる必要はない。
〈Sun Gazer = 太陽を見つめるもの〉という言葉には、太陽信仰の気配がある。古い時代に、人は太陽を見つめることで信仰という概念を獲得したのかもしれない。信仰が意識の背後に遠のいた現代で、太陽が緑色に輝く世界は私たちにどんな景色を見せてくれるのだろうか。
Green flash. It is a phenomenon where a green light appears on the horizon as the sun goes down, mainly seen in the north. The green sun appears in Roy Taro's works that he calls Jade Sun. The artist creates his works using actual scenery as motifs, simplifying the elements of nature into color forms. In the process, he builds up colors and forms in the painting from the word of Jade Sun. The artist believes that when the sun is painted as yellow or red, it means that IT IS THE SUN to others clearly, but we don’t need to follow that.
“Sun Gazer” has a hint of sun worship. In ancient times, people may have had the concept of faith by gazing at the sun. In the modern age, where faith has sunk into the background of consciousness, a world where the sun shines green, what kind of landscape does it show to us?
