| Statement

本展示で、Taroは広野の外から来た自身の視点を「目」ととらえ、高倉山をめぐる多様な視点について作品を通して考察しました。高倉山を起点に広野の伝説をリサーチし、山や街の風景を写真やスケッチで記録しました。どの作品も、Roy Taroが広野を見た視点が、目に見えるものとして現れたものです。

ワークショップを開催した作品制作では、アーティストはファシリテーターとなり、参加者の間でコミュニケーションが生まれるように場をつくりました。Taroは参加者に表現上の具体的な指示は行わず、表現が上手くいかない場合に限り、手法に関してアイデアを出しました。参加者の表現が呼応し、新しい風景が立ち上がることを意図しました。

In this exhibition, Taro frames his outsider's perspective on Hirono as an "eye," exploring the diverse viewpoints surrounding Mount Takakura through his works. He researched local legends rooted in the mountain and documented the landscapes of the town through photographs and sketches. Each work is a visible manifestation of the perspective through which Roy Taro looked at Hirono.

In the workshop-based works, Taro took on the role of facilitator, creating a space where communication could emerge among participants. He offered no specific instructional direction regarding expression; only when someone encountered difficulty did he suggest ideas around method. His intention was for the participants' individual expressions to resonate with one another, giving rise to a new, collective landscape.

| 山をめぐる視点 Perspectives of Mountain

本作品はワークショップを行なっていないTaro個人の絵画で、広野町や高倉山を巡り歩いて行なったスケッチを作品化したものです。

等身大のキャンバスに、高倉山に関するスケッチを10層、絵の具で重ねて下地を作りました。

その上に、高倉山の山頂から見える印象的な〈もう一つの山〉である姥嶽権現堂の丘を描いています。

姥嶽権現堂は伝説の上で井戸を通じて高倉山とつながっています。高倉山の山頂から見た視点の風景として、本作品を制作しました。

This work is a solo painting by Taro, made independently of the workshops, developed from sketches made while traversing Hirono Town and the area around Mount Takakura. On a life-sized canvas, he built up a ground of ten layers of paint drawn from these sketches, upon which he depicted the hill of Ubadake Gongen-do — a striking "other mountain" visible from the summit. In local legend, Ubadake Gongen-do is connected to Mount Takakura through an underground well. The work presents the landscape as seen from the vantage point of the mountain's peak.

ふたば未来学園美術部の学生の皆さまと共同制作を行いました。共同制作は３回に分けて行われ、それぞれの工程で、「色彩」「モチーフ」「モチーフの掘り下げ」についての制作を行いました。広野の海の日の出を題材として描かれた本作品上では、雲や天体、海洋生物といった多様なモチーフを通して学生同士のコミュニケーションが行われています。パレットはワークショップ制作の過程を表す作品として作品としました。

This work was created in collaboration with students from the art club at Futaba Future High School. The production unfolded across three sessions, each focused in turn on ”color,“ ”motifs,“ and ”the deepening of motifs.“ The work depicts a sunrise over the sea in Hirono, and across its surface, communication among the students takes shape through a variety of motifs — clouds, celestial bodies, and marine life. We had kept our pallets as archives of our co-creation.

この作品は、高倉山をめぐるさまざまな景色のコラージュです。山から、あるいは山の中で見た景色を写真で記録し、その写真をもとに児童館の子どもたちとワークショップを行いました。3-5名でチーム分けをし、チームそれぞれが事前に用意された高倉山の風景の写真を選び、それを絵で表現しました。蜜蝋 / 米粉クレヨンを使用し、子どもたちの安全性に配慮しています。

This work is a collage of varied landscapes surrounding Mount Takakura. Taro documented the scenery photographically from the mountain and within it, and used these photographs as the basis for a workshop with children from a local community center. Working in teams of three to five, each team selected from a set of pre-prepared photographs of the mountain's landscapes and rendered them in drawing. Beeswax and rice flour crayons were used in consideration of the children's safety.

Taroが描いた浅見川河口からの風景をベースに、余白のアートフェア広野にて参加型ライブペインティングの参加者と共に制作しました。参加者の多くが余白のアートフェア出展作家であり、広野町の外からやってきていました。広野の外から来ていますが、客観的に土地を観察した人々の表現がパラレルに絵の中に存在し、新しい風景を描き出しました。

Based on a landscape of the Asami River estuary painted by Taro, this work was co-created with participants in a live painting event held at Marginal Art Fair, Hirono. Most participants were exhibiting artists who had come from outside Hirono. Though outsiders to the place, their expressions — each grounded in an objective observation of the land — exist in parallel within the work, together rendering a new landscape.
