Biography

Born in 1994. Based in Tokyo, Japan.

Works in painting and poetry.

At the core of his practice is extensive research into existing mythologies, natural environments, and regional cultures.

During his final year of university, Taro visited Yap Island in Micronesia. His experience living with the local community, coupled with his pilgrimage to Mt. Omine in Nara—the birthplace of Shugendo—exposed him to the otherworldly realms existing between humanity and nature. These encounters led him to pursue art as a means to materialize these invisible sensations.

He began working with photography and poetry in 2017, and painting in 2018. He also conducts auto Narrative, an ongoing archival project on WordPress that compiles fragmented poetry into a continuous series.

STATEMENT

My work is not fantasy; rather, it is a practice of realism born from my own multilayered perception of the world.

I create through the dual mediums of painting and poetry. Central to my work is the appearance of the "Jade Sun," a sun emitting green light. This motif serves as an attempt to invert our perception of the world and expand the boundaries of cognition.

Through visits to Yap Island in Micronesia and sites of mountain worship in Japan, I sensed the existence of an "Other World"—something lying behind the world we know. The sensation of recognizing this other realm persisted as a lingering dissonance while walking through the crowds in Tokyo, Japan of capitalism.

I paint the green sun as a machine to visualize this difference between the societies and perception realm. The Jade Sun is a fictional light source, born from an egg at the very moment of the world's creation. When this star rises, our landscapes are defamiliarized, and the rules of perception we accept as given are deconstructed. In their place, a new landscape emerges—one that reflects the spirits sleeping in the land, memories, and the multi-dimensional world views by non-human entities.

My creative process involves fieldwork using drawings, words, photography, and interviews to gather materials such as myths, folklore, and the nuances of human activity. Expanding my practice into the social realm, I also conduct interdisciplinary collaborations and participatory performances as social experiments to generate temporary "communal spaces" involving the others.

絵画/ 詩によって制作を行う。

制作の核にあるのは既存の神話、自然環境、地域文化へのリサーチである。

大学最終年次に、ミクロネシアのヤップ島を訪れる。島の経験や、修験道発祥の地である奈良県大峰山への旅の中で、人と自然のあわいにある異界的なものに触れ、それを形にするために2017年より写真と詩、2018年より絵画による制作を行う。

断片的な詩を記録し、wordpressで一連の作品とするプロジェクト、auto Narrative を展開する。

私は作品を個人的なファンタジーではなく、私という個人の多層的な世界認識が作り出すリアリズムの実践ととらえています。

制作は絵画/詩という二つの媒体で行います。作品には、〈翡翠の太陽 = Jade Sun〉という緑色の光を放つ太陽が現れます。それは個人の世界認識を反転させ、私たちが見ることができる世界の裾野を広げる試みです。

ミクロネシアのヤップ島や日本の山岳信仰の地への訪問を経験し、自分が知っている世界の裏側にあるもの＝異界の存在を感じました。その感覚は資本主義の場である東京の雑踏を歩く中で違和感として残り続けています。

その違和感、不可視の領域を可視化するための装置として、私は緑の太陽を描いています。翡翠の太陽は、世界が誕生した瞬間に卵から生まれたフィクショナルな光源です。この天体が空に昇る時、見慣れた風景は異化され、私たちが当たり前のように受け入れている世界の認識のルールは解体されていきます。 そして土地に眠る精霊たちや記憶、そして人間以外の存在たちが見ている別の次元の世界認識が、新しい風景として立ち上がってくるのです。

ドローイング、言葉、写真、インタビューなどの手法による土地でのフィールドワークを通じて、神話や伝承、人間の営みといった要素を収集し、制作を行います。他者をその実践に巻き込む活動として、他分野との協働や参加型パフォーマンスを展開しています。
