Biography

Born in 1994

From Tokyo, Japan

Director of Liaison

Roy Taro is portraying a world where Jade Sun shines.

Jade Sun is the green sun glows in the sky.

His main media are painting and poetry.

What the artist expresses is the inner mythology within him,

as he crosses the boundary of the world with the fictional sun and local landscapes and cultures.

He graduated from Waseda University in Japan in 2016 with a major in law. When he was a senior, he visited Yap island in Micronesia. He lived as the local, saw the tropical wood where crabs walked on and fathoms of the blue ocean, the silver nights of the stars and the moon. Then, he realized that there is something like a valley between where he is and the world having the life breathing. He had felt being away from art. After graduation, he realized his path was art, started photography and writing in 2017, painting in 2018.

STATEMENT

Jade Sun is radiant

somewhere in the sky

I create artwork through painting and poetry. In my painting process, I visit seas, mountains, and islands, observing and recording landscapes through drawings and photographs. Similarly with poetry, I observe and record in nature and daily life, just as I do with painting, creating poems by hand using paper and pen.

Through these methods of painting and poetry that explore imagery, I aim to depict primordial landscapes. It is a new landscape.

Jade Sun that appears in my poetry is a fictional sun born from the egg at the first moment of the world's creation. When this fictional green sun exists within real landscapes, the scenery that exists in this world rises up as something unfamiliar, a new landscape.

The landscapes experienced by humans are unique in every moment. I want to establish the unique landscapes I experience as new scenery through my creative work. In my process, the landscapes captured through drawings and photographs take on different hue. These connect to the linguistic, poetic world where Jade Sun shines.
